Grain-Fed Program
Here at Ausgrow our primary aim is to produce quality beef product for the local and international market.
Therefore diet is an important element of our business model. The Ausgrow life cycle post weaner stage is based on a 30-90 day turnover. And our drafting skills ensures that only stock that is fit for market are despatched for sale.
We have both grass fed and grain fed options and adequate feed and water is assured. Paddocks are also used for backgrounding and grain supplementation.
Ausgrow offers a custom feeding program for clients ranging from 70 days for A grade grain fed cows and a 80 to120 days and beyond feeding model
In the case of grain feeding regimens, it is based on tried and tested nutritional composition of grains and other supplements for maximum return. We pride ourselves on knowing what is best for our livestock to deliver high quality beef for live and frozen export and fresh to market supplies.
Agricultural Farming and Commodities
Our Ausgrow operations strive to achieve at least 40% self-production to meet our feed demand, reducing its reliance of the broader commodities market.
While our relationships and partnering arrangements with suppliers is strong across the industry, we also have a desire for a greater level of control and self-sufficiency over the sometimes-variable pricing in the market due to supply and demand.
Our farming operations are equally mature, and we have an ongoing schedule of general farming, which consist of improving cultivation and working and planting of hundreds of acres of product under our pivot irrigation systems along with dryland farming including wheat, barley, sorghum forage sorghum and Rhodes grass.
60% is bailed and 40% is harvested for grain retained for Ausgrow use with the balance sold into the commodity market.
Ausgrow plans to increase their farming areas by another 50% by 2023, that would allow Ausgrows feeding regime to also increase raising the total of cattle on feed by 20% by the end of 2023
Breeding and Production
Ausgrow runs a breeding program over several stations across Queensland, Australia.
Our breeding program focuses on Brahman Cows and Heifers backed to Angus and Simmental bulls to obtain a high-quality beef production.
Ausgrow has been successful in producing a high birth strike rate. Regular preg testing is undertaken and dry cattle will be moved on faster. We aim to achieve 4 or 5 cycles in breeding and then those cattle are sold to market and refreshed with new stock.
Weaners cycle through to grass for growth and/or grain feeding programs with variable exit timetables, dependent upon stock numbers and demand. 90% of them will move on to the frozen export trade and the remainder into local commercial markets.
Our staff are experienced in husbandry practices and have a regular monitoring program across all paddocks and pens every day. Animal welfare is important to us in achieving the high quality and standards of meat production.
Stations and Projects
Ausgrow is an Australian owned company specialising in the beef industry.
Our business model is centred around the use of land and cattle stations that offer flexibility for breeding, cultivation of feed and the option of grass or grain supplementation and strip grazing for backgrounding younger stock in preparation for a grain fed model or the livestock market. The stations are equipped with modern equipment and infrastructure to ensure efficiency of operations.
our preferred breeding stock are mostly sourced from regional cattle breeding enterprises and private farms, with 90 percent supplemented with our own breeding programs.
The stations are sourced based on their operational and infrastructure growth capability and access to water (dams, bore and rainfall). And the company has several water licences to support pivot irrigation systems for cultivation.
We have an eye to building sustainable and efficient cattle breeding and husbandry regimes.
